What is a Collision Damage Waiver?
A Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an optional but highly recommended protection that limits your financial responsibility in the event of accidental damage to the vehicle during your hire period. While it’s not insurance, it significantly reduces what you’d have to pay if the vehicle is damaged — giving you greater peace of mind and helping you avoid unexpected costs.
At Zoo Cars, we want your hire experience to be as stress-free as possible. That’s why we offer CDW as an optional add-on to your hire package.

CDW limits your liability for damage to the bodywork of the vehicle. This includes:
Scratches and dents
Bumper damage
Panel repairs
Paintwork scuffs
CDW does not cover all types of damage. Exclusions include:
Tyres, wheels and windscreens
Interior damage or lost keys
Misfuelling or negligence
Damage caused by unauthorised drivers or off-road use
You can add CDW to your hire agreement when booking online or in person. The daily rate is affordable and clearly outlined upfront. We recommend opting for CDW if you want to avoid large excess fees in the event of damage.
With Zoo Cars, our CDW option is designed to be straightforward, cost-effective, and transparent. We won’t hide fees in the small print, and our team will explain exactly what’s covered before you sign.
Without CDW, you could be liable for up to the full value of the repair cost, which could run into the thousands. With CDW, your liability is reduced to a much lower, fixed amount — so you’re not left with a surprise bill.
We understand that hire agreements can be confusing. If you’re unsure about whether CDW is right for you, just ask one of our friendly team members. We’re always happy to explain how it works and help you make an informed choice.
